Welcome to Tübingen 

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine, organized by the Scientific Board of the German Society of Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP). This congress marks a new era for German Sports Medicine and Exercise Science. We are pursuing new ideas with the aim to facilitate the exchange between established colleagues and young scientists. Held in English to foster international exchange, it highlights openness, excellence, and global collaboration.

Emphasizing the principle that exercise is medicine, it bridges sports science and clinical care—from basic mechanisms to prevention and therapy—across metabolism, cardiovascular medicine, oncology, neurology, sports orthopedics, and athlete care. The Scientific Congress promotes innovation in training and performance, supports emerging scientists, and expresses a shared long-term goal: to build an internationally recognized, and ambitious German research community that contributes at the highest level to scientific knowledge, athletic performance, and public health. Fortunately, our call for abstracts yielded nearly 200 submissions, allowing us to finalize the program with a broad spectrum of oral and poster presentations.

A Pre-Day of the YoungDGSP offers a platform for young scientists for further exchange formats such as interest groups and the discussion of study protocols. In addition, we organize a Clinical Symposium which will address actual topics in clinical sports medicine.

Tübingen is delighted and proud to be hosting a German Sports Medicine Congress once again after almost 20 years. We warmly welcome all participants and are expecting an excellent conference, a vivid exchange of scientific knowledge in a friendly atmosphere.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted a abstract for the German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine.

We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions received and are looking forward to a high-quality program!

Below you find the keyfacts for your abstract submission:

  • Original work
  • Meta analyses / systematic reviews
  • Evaluation and validation of measuring devices  
  • Structured clinical case reports

Scoping reviews and study protocols will not be accepted for the main congress. 

Study protocols will only be accepted for pre-day (further information you will find in the separate link)

Prizes will be awarded for contributions by young scientists. Separate registration is required when submitting abstracts. Please note the requirements for participation in the award ceremony

  • for young scientists only (from all sports medicine disciplines)
  • Age:  under 45 years of age
  • Scientific status: non-habilitated or habilitation-equivalent achievements
  • Submission possible only for Study Protocols
  • Time of presentation and discussion can depend on your status of research, but no longer than 15 minutes
  • Abstract in German language
  • Word count as for main congress
  • Title
  • Max 300 words
  • Preferred presentation format (oral presentation, poster)
  • Topic
  • Information about co-authors
  • Information about potential conflicts of interest
  • Only abstracts with a word count below 300 fulfill the formal criteria for successful submission 
  • Submission possible for
    - oral presentation (8 min. presentation + 4,5min discussion)
    - Poster presentation at poster Format: DIN A0 (no additional presentation format) The format specifications for the posters will be announced later
  • Please notice: the final decision whether the request for an oral presentation can be granted lies with the program committee

 

  • The submitted work is novel and relevant for the field of sports medicine and sports science. It is not already published in any peer-reviewed journal or in any book at the time of abstract submission deadline (March 31st, 2026).
  • Adhere to the following structure: background, method, results, conclusion.
  • The methodological approach (including statistical methods used) must be presented in a comprehensible manner. 
  • The discussion and conclusions should be closely aligned with the results.
  • Avoid emphasizing “trends” in the absence of statistical significance.
  • Avoid capital letters and abbreviations in the title. Abbreviations may be used in the text if they are defined when first mentioned.
  • Figures and tables cannot be converted.
  • Please ensure that your contribution does not contain any spelling or grammatical errors, as it will be published as submitted.
  • When submitting a contribution, authors must disclose any personal relationships with commercial enterprises and other potential conflicts of interest.
  • These exist in particular if the authors have a stake in companies or receive financial support from them.

References are not required (if needed, they will be counted toward the character count).

  • Acceptance or rejection of the submissions will be communicated until May 15th 2026 via email.
  • Changes to a submitted abstract cannot be accepted. 
  • Deadline March 31th 2026
  • All submitted abstracts will be evaluated anonymously by at least two reviewers.
  • The number of oral presentations is limited. If a contribution cannot be accepted as an oral presentation, it will be reviewed as a poster presentation.
  • Submitting an abstract does not replace registration as a participant in the conference. You must pay the participation fee at the latest after your abstract has been accepted.
  • No travel expenses will be reimbursed.
  • All abstracts will be published prior the congress in the German Journal of Sports Medicine in august 2026. By submitting an abstract, you agree that your abstract will be published in the German Journal of Sports Medicine.
  • Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 posters and 3 oral presentations, respectively.
  • The submission of abstracts for the German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine is free of charge. 

Registration

The main congress will take place from September 24th  to September 25th , 2026. Young scientists and anyone interested as well as supporters of young scientists can register for the Pre-Day on 23.09.2026. 

The evening event on Thursday as part of the Main Congress must be booked separately. There is an additional fee for this as a contribution to a joint get-together with catering and a surprise program item. We look forward to celebrating the evening with you! 

The main Congress is paralleled by a Clinical Symposium (“Topics in Clinical Sports Medicine”), which will be held in german language on the afternoon of Friday 25th and in the morning of Saturday 26th 2026. Participation in the Clinical Symposium, either in addition to or exclusively, is free of charge, but registration is required.

Conference Program

Pre-Day

The Pre-Day is a new format for sports physicians and scientists from interdisciplinary fields who share an interest in sports medicine.

Building on the 1st German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine, the new congress format provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, networking and opportunities for scientific collaboration among all participants.

The Pre-Day focuses on young scientists and physicians, who will be given a platform through various program components. In keeping with the motto 'by young, for young', the congress will offer independent sessions and formats.

The expansion of existing interest groups will be pursued, with the objective of incorporating novel concepts and members. This initiative is informed by the success of previous young talent conferences, most recently exemplified by the 2024 event in Freiburg.

Additionally, presenting study protocols in one session will highlight the role of young talents in German sports medicine. The aim is also to promote objective exchange and constructive dialogue in a pleasant atmosphere.

We would like to invite not only young scientists, but also established and experienced scientists from the fields of sports medicine to contribute to the sustainability and future of our science.

Furthermore, the first official elections of YoungDGSP members will take place during the Pre-Day, and all members are invited to attend.

The Pre-Day will conclude with a social event. All Pre-Day participants are invited to attend. The aim is to facilitate discussion that goes beyond purely professional interests. It is precisely this kind of exchange that will lay the groundwork for a successful future for German sports medicine.

Clinical Symposium

Framed by the German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine, we organize a clinical symposium on September 25th and 26th, which will address actual topics in clinical sports medicine.

The Clinical Symposium will be held in german language.

Im Rahmen des vom Wissenschaftsrat der DGSP organisierten German Congress of Science in Sports Medicine veranstalten wir am 25.9. nachmittags und am 26.9. vormittags ein klinisches Symposium zu „Hot Topics der klinischen Sportmedizin“. Anlass für dieses Symposium ist auch das 50. – jährige Jubiläum der Abteilung Sportmedizin an der Universität Tübingen.

Evening event

We are delighted to invite you to the conference’s evening event, which will take place on the elegant bel-étage of the Tübingen Museum Society. A venue steeped in historical and cultural charm in the heart of Tübingen.

The evening begins at 7.30 pm with a champagne reception, marking the start of a specially curated programme in an extraordinary setting.  

A buffet will be served in the museum’s impressive rooms, rounding off the evening with culinary delights. As the highlight of the event, we are offering a surprise performance that promises to be an unforgettable experience in this unique setting.

Attendance at the evening event is optional and requires separate registration. The participation fee is €30 per person.

We look forward to welcoming you to an evening that combines a cultural atmosphere with a special programme.
